Growing in Love with God
This post invites you to begin your Growing With God journey by exploring what it means to grow in love with God. Through scripture, reflection, and prayer, it examines how God’s love shapes our identity, brings healing, and teaches us how to love ourselves and others more deeply. This reflection lays the foundation for spiritual growth and intentional living rooted in God’s unconditional love.

Growing in Love with God
Growing in love with God is a journey, not a moment. Many of us were taught to focus on doing the “right things” praying more, reading more, serving more but love with God is not built on performance. It is built on presence.
Just like any relationship, love grows through time, honesty, and connection. Some days that connection feels strong and effortless. Other days it feels quiet or distant. Both seasons are part of growth. Loving God does not mean never struggling; it means choosing to stay connected even when faith feels tender.
Scripture
“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19
Teaching
God’s love is not something we earn, prove, or maintain through good behavior. It is the starting point. Before we ever reached for Him, He reached for us. When we understand this, our relationship with God begins to shift from obligation to intimacy.
Growing in love with God often requires unlearning the belief that we must be perfect to be close to Him. God invites us to come as we are tired, unsure, hopeful, and growing. Love deepens when we allow ourselves to receive God’s love instead of constantly striving to deserve it.
As we grow, love becomes the foundation of our faith. It shapes how we pray, how we respond to challenges, and how we see ourselves. The more we rest in God’s love, the more naturally our lives begin to reflect it.
Personal Reflection
There was a time when I believed staying busy for God meant I was growing closer to Him. Over time, I’ve learned that love with God grows most in quiet moments when I stop striving and simply allow myself to be present with Him. Love deepens not through pressure, but through connection.
Reflection Questions
When do I feel most connected to God?
What beliefs about love or worth might be affecting my relationship with Him?
How can I create space this week to simply be with God?
During The Next Week, Try This
Choose one simple way to nurture your relationship with God this week:
Spend five quiet minutes each day sitting with God no agenda, just presence
Read one scripture slowly and reflect on what it reveals about God’s love
Write a short prayer thanking God for how He has loved you
Affirmation
I am loved by God exactly as I am, and I grow in love with Him each day.
Closing Prayer
God, thank You for loving me first and fully. Help me to grow in love with You without fear or pressure. Teach me to rest in Your presence and trust Your heart toward me. Amen.
